When he was just 16, Tommy's* mother died and he came to
Maine to live with his uncle. Understandably, Tommy had a
difficult time adjusting. He was angry and began using drugs.
Violent outbursts were common. His uncle sent Tommy to a
group home.
At the home, counselors recognized that grief was at the
core of Tommy's struggles. They contacted Pathfinders:
Support for grieving children. Through Pathfinders,
Tommy learned how to cope with his anger and be productive.
He's now drug free and contemplating college.
Trauma and depression can shadow a child's future. Pathfinders
creates a caring and safe environment to grow through the
healing process.
